Skywalker produces large, bright white heads with excellent dome shape and tight curds that are some of the easiest to grow. The self-wrapping leaves protect the heads naturally, so you don't need to tie them up for blanching.
Cauliflower: Cauliflower is the temperamental but rewarding prima donna of the brassica family, producing stunning heads of tightly packed curds in pristine white, purple, or chartreuse colors that rival any gourmet produce. Although it demands consistent cool weather, steady moisture, and rich fertility, success yields a nutritional powerhouse and a perfect 6-8 inch head. Self-blanching and colored varieties simplify production and offer visual drama beyond standard white types. Fall crops are typically more successful and flavorful than spring plantings.
• Growing Tips: Transplant healthy, large seedlings 2-4 weeks before the last frost for spring or midsummer for fall harvest, spacing 18-24 inches apart. Handle with extreme care to avoid root disturbance.
• Sun Requirements: Full sun (6+ hours minimum); protect from intense heat which can cause premature bolting.
• Preferred Soil: Rich, well-drained, consistently moist soil with high fertility (pH 6.0-7.5); requires consistent nitrogen and boron, and is highly sensitive to environmental stress.
• Harvest Details: Cut heads when the curds are tight and compact, typically 55-80 days after transplanting. Harvest the entire head at once, as it will not produce side shoots.
