White yarrow is a tough-as-nails perennial that produces flat-topped clusters of tiny white flowers that beneficial insects absolutely love. Once established, it thrives on neglect in full sun and poor soil, blooming for months and drying beautifully for wreaths and arrangements.
Yarrow: This extremely hardy perennial (Achillea milleolens) is a zero-fuss flower, producing flat-topped flower clusters that attract an exceptional number of beneficial insects while thriving in challenging conditions that kill pampered plants. The ferny, aromatic foliage and long-lasting blooms in whites, yellows, pinks, and reds offer excellent performance as both cut and dried flowers. Yarrow is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance, making it perfect for ornamental value, though it has also been used medicinally for thousands of years.
• Growing Tips: Transplant in spring or fall, spacing 12-18 inches apart; plants spread slowly and are exceptionally cold-hardy perennials.
• Sun Requirements: Full sun (6 hours minimum).
• Preferred Soil: Well-drained, average to poor soil; thrives in lean conditions and tolerates drought.
• Harvest Details: Cut flower clusters when fully open for fresh or dried arrangements; offers a 7-10 day fresh vase life and dries well; deadhead to promote reblooming; perennial in zones 3-9.
