Growing Tips: For longer lasting basil plants, gardeners should plant them 8 to 12 inches apart in the garden and ensure the soil surface doesn't dry out completely by adding a light mulch. If planting in a pot, a slightly tighter spacing is possible but may result in shorter plant life.
