Beets, Chioggia Guardsmark

Chioggia Guardsmark has the most beautiful pink and white candy striped root. It tastes as sweet as it looks. It's a surefire hit with kids! We eat them sliced thing as raw chips for a nutritious snack.

Beets: Grown for their roots, beets are a great source of vitamins and nutrients without a lot of calories. They been shown to improve blood pressure as well as fight inflammation and help with digestion. Famous for their 'earthy' scent, beets contain geosmim which is also responsible for the smell of the forest floor after a rainfall.

Growing Tips: Beets do great all season long. Plant cells 6 inches apart with 2-3 plants in each cell. Young leaves can be harvested and steamed but taking leaves tend to make the beet root smaller.
